zamárdi project

Located in Zamárdi, near Lake Balaton in Hungary, this project is an ongoing architectural renovation and interior design transformation of a house with a strong Bauhaus architectural identity. The project explores the natural dialogue between Bauhaus architecture and Mid-Century Modern interior design, two design movements that share principles of functionality, simplicity, craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetics.

Our approach focuses on preserving the architectural clarity of the original Bauhaus structure while introducing a warm and refined Mid-Century Modern interior concept. The result is a carefully balanced environment where architecture and interior design speak the same language.

Design Concept

The interior design is guided by a palette of natural materials, warm textures, and sculptural forms that soften the strict geometry of the Bauhaus architecture while maintaining its functional spirit.

Key design elements include:

   •    Custom wood paneling and cabinetry that define the spatial volumes and add warmth to the interior.
   •    Natural stone surfaces that introduce texture and connect the home to the surrounding landscape.
   •    Soft curves and rounded architectural elements that balance the strong geometric lines of the original structure.
   •    Muted green tones and earthy colors inspired by the natural environment around the house.
   •    Large windows and open living spaces that maximize natural light and create a seamless connection with nature.

A Dialogue Between Bauhaus and Mid-Century Modern

Both Bauhaus architecture and Mid-Century Modern design share a philosophy centered on functional design, material honesty, and the beauty of simplicity. This project explores that relationship by creating interiors that respect the historical architectural language of the house while introducing warmth, comfort, and contemporary living.
